PORSCHE MUSEUM

I visited the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart last week.I first visited it a few years ago when it was in a cramped shed down the road from the current site and I enjoyed that but even the superlatives I had heard describing the new museum had not prepared me .It is superb .A few X1 photos from the day.

CRAZY WHEELS

Spotted on the street in ,of all places,Stuttgart last week these extreme, crazy wheels on a Hummer. They look like they have been stolen from a horse drawn buggy. They are 30" mounted with Pirelli Scorpion P Zero 310x30x30 tyres.I am surprised that Pirelli make such extreme tyres. The ride must be bone jarring and it must tramline horribly -and there are plenty of tramlines in Stuttgart. Also it must be very difficult to avoid "kerbing" the wheels and even on super smooth German roads the risk of buckling them on potholes must be very high -they would last about 5 mins on Australian roads .And how do they fit the tyres with those narrow sidewalls without damaging the satin finish on the wheels?
The owner has certainly suceeded in making a statement but I am sure that he can't enjoy the ride.

AN RV WITH CLASS !

I know that sounds like an oxymoron but how about this RV heading up the autobahn yesterday?
Not for him a boring little car on a trailer for his tender vehicle .Not even a Smart car but a pristine classic Goggomobile. Now that's class.

ISABELLA

Drove north of Strasbourg today to Wissembourg -right on the French German border which is barely marked.Back roads switch in and out of the two countries. On the French side they speak French,German and Alsacien a mix of both French and German.I came across this rare Borgward Isabella outside a house about 3 meters inside Germany.
Borgward was a German brand which went bankrupt in 1961.They made very good engines which actually enjoyed some success in F2 racing with Cooper in the late 50's.
