L'ART DE L'AUTOMOBILE

I went to L'Art de L'Automobile exhibition in Paris at the Museum of Decorative Arts ( a wing of the Louvre ) whilst in Paris in June . It is a display of Ralph Lauren's personal car collection -or part of it . And what a collection it is.Amazing cars- beautifully displayed . And whilst I enjoyed it I would have prefered to see them at the Goodwood Revival or the Le Mans Classic -- on the road or track . Fat chance .
The exhibition runs until 28th August -see http://www.ralphlaurencarcollection.com/
I have put some of the photos I took in Paris on the trip into a book -- see http://www.blurb.com/books/2340713

  1. nothing like taking something out of its element to highlight the inherent artistic nature, remember some hi-art nabob stating that anything that carried a 'function' could not be art ... but since long before mr. calder and bmw teamed up the automobilistas, coachbuilders and boatbuilders have been giving lie to such an argument ... lovely to see a few fabulous creations betting their due ...

  2. Did you get any pictures of the LM250 John? Ralph Lauren owns the ex Scuderia Veloce LM250, run so successfully over many years in Australia. If so I'd love to see them.

He purchased the car on the basis of it's success, and its originality apparently. Being so far away from Maranello it was raced hard, yet carefully, and retained many of it original pieces throughout its active racing career.
